"human connection - through music"

Masterful performance, vulnerable music making.  Recognized for bold and inspired performances, delivered with flawless technique and a vivid colour palette, Canadian violinist Kate Norine Maloney is truly an original in the field of classical music. She is dedicated to exploring repertoire that is rarely performed while promoting diversity and inclusivity.

Through the creation of immersive concert experiences, Kate seeks to engage listeners through her choice of repertoire, collaboration with multi-disciplinary artists, or through direct audience interaction.

Her debut album and a series of music videos will be released in Autumn 2023, featuring under-represented composers such as William Grant-Still and Missy Mazzoli. This album is being produced with a generous grant from Neustart Kulture and Bayern Innovative.

Kate has performed as soloist in Europe with the Bach Collegium and Europa Musicale orchestra of which she is also the concertmaster. In March 2023 she will perform Florence Price’s Violin Concerto No. 2 with the Nairobi Symphony Orchestra to celebrate international women’s day.

Kate is a sought after chamber musician and soloist. She recently joined the Barbican Quartet as their new second violin. Only six months after, the Barbican Quartet won 1st prize at the 71st ARD International String Quartet Competition, along with the prize for best performance of the commissioned work, multiple special prizes and a CD recording with Genuin Classics, to be released in September 2023. This exciting young quartet travels the world performing. To view their concerts and learn more about the Barbican Quartet, please go to www.barbicanquartet.com. Kate has performed closely with many fantastic musicians such as James Ehnes, the Quatuor Ébène, the Modigliani Quartet, Andrew Armstrong and Denis Brott.

Kate is a recipient of many awards, such as the Lloyd Carr Harris Scholarship, an AIDA grant, a Neuestartkultur grant and a grant from Bayern Innovative. She has performed in concert halls around the world such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Roy Thompson Hall, Walt Disney Hall, Munich Philharmonic Hall Gasteig, Maison Heinrich Heine France and many more.

Kate finished her studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater München with Christoph Poppen and Lena Neudauer. With the Barbican Quartet she studies at the newly formed String Quartet Academy with the Quatuor Ébène and Eberhard Feltz, as well as at the Escuela Reina Sofia in Madrid with Günter Pichler. Kate has received musical mentorship from many wonderful musicians, especially Mihaela Martin with whom she studied at the Villecroze Academy in France.

Kates engagement with music extends outside the concert hall and has lead her to teach and perform as a part of the Global Leaders Program in countries such as Kenya, Tanzania, Panama.

Kate performs on an Italian violin by Vincenzo Panormo, on a generous loan from the Canimex Foundation in Canada.
